Voix Humaines Consort of Viols (Montreal): Margaret Little Mélisande Corriveau Elin Söderström Susie Napper
Catherine Webster, soprano
Come celebrate the 350th Anniversary of Henry Purcell’s birthday! Purcell, a master of the English Baroque, was described by a contemporary colleague as “the greatest genius we ever had”; in modern times, he is cited as a musical influence by such musicians as Pete Townshend of The Who.
This concert’s programme includes some of his most superb music, including consort songs which show Purcell’s innate talent for vocal music, and fantasias – chamber music for a consort of viols, a pinnacle of English music.
