PuSh International Performing Arts Festival presents Nature Theater of Oklahoma's Poetics: a ballet brut
January 27, 2010 - January 30, 2010
Described as an “awesome and awkward tour de force,” Poetics: a ballet brut is do-it-yourself theatre at its most mischievous. Common gestures and movements, like brushing back a friend’s hair, are taken to hilarious new heights unhampered by the performers’ complete lack of formal dance training. Set to delightfully cheesy pop ditties like Dreamweaver and The Safety Dance, Poetics: a ballet brut builds into a surprising finale in a skewed dance of life.
Nature Theater of Oklahoma is a New York-based performance group under the direction of Pavol Liska and Kelly Copper. Using readymade materials, found space, overheard speech, and observed gesture, they seek to effect a shift in the perception of everyday reality that extends beyond the site of performance and into the world in which we live.
