Good Boys and True received its world premiere at The Steppenwolf Theatre, December 21, 2007, and then travelled to New York opening on May 19, 2008. Sacasa's drama is a thoughtful take on American class privilege, a popular young 80s prep school student, who seemed to have it all including good looks, excellent grades and athletic prowess – but needs to deal with his fears over being gay. Brandon is compelled to hide who he truly is from everyone else until a video tape surfaces that threatens to destroy his future. Hyslop stated, "Youth's ‘new culture’ has seemingly already taken hold (1989)...and the pressure from the 'old-guard', the ‘establishment’, are in conflict with that...who will win? Ultimately the youth of today, with their reckless invincibility, strike out without a doubt, of anything but victory in their sights - but the slow, powerful girth of academia and ‘class’, slowly and insidiously overpowers their naive short-sightedness! It is the ultimate expulsion, from their over-protected world of smugness. It is truly tragic!” The play reveals the crumbling of the façade.
