Co.ERASGA presents Passages of Rhythms
Wednesday November 6 - Saturday November 9, 2019 8:00pm
1398 Cartwright St., 3rd floor, Granville Island
In this work, choreographer and dancer Alvin Erasga Tolentino returns to the stage; merging three duets while working with three diverse artists across three different genres – Flamenco, Bharatanatyam, and voice – Passages of Rhythms is a full-length evening of cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural collaboration.
Tolentino will embark on a new journey of creative research, collaborating with Vancouver’s Chinese-Canadian Flamenco artist Kasandra “La China”, Indo-Canadian Bharatanatyam dancer Sujit Vaidya, and Montreal voice artist phenomena Gabriel Dharmoo. Tolentino’s quest in this new phase of work is to challenge his choreographic method through inter-generational exchange and by sharing the different practices of Pan-Asian rigour across disciplines.
Using these methods will generate a potent relationship to movement encompassing the ideas, origins, aesthetics and experimentation inherent in the different movement and voice forms previously mentioned.
A fusion of tradition and contemporary movement, Passages of Rhythms is a crosspollination of cultures enabling the body to be moved and transformed through complex rhythms, shapes, and voice. Passages of Rhythms aims to question and relate how the contemporary body and its symbiotic relations to dance and culture are interconnected through the expression of movement.
